Are you a disciple of Jesus?

“If any man come to Me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life, he cannot be My disciple.”

Luke 14:26….

Wow, that’s a pretty strong word coming from Jesus! We’re supposed to hate our father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, and our own life? I thought as Christians we weren’t supposed to hate anyone. Are we really supposed to hate? Well, not really, at least not in the way you may be thinking.

The word hate that Jesus uses here can actually mean, “to love less”. We’re to actually love everything and everyone else less than we do Jesus if we truly want to be His disciple. In other words, He comes before anything or any person. Not just in words, but in our actions.

That’s the price you must pay if you want to be His disciple. Those aren’t my words, those are His. You see, there’s a difference between a convert and a disciple. A convert is someone who has converted to Christianity, a disciple is someone who is following Jesus in a disciplined way. A disciple is committed to doing God’s will. They’re not just trusting Him for salvation, they’re living a committed life to Jesus. They’re the ones who are in love with His Word. They’re worshipping Him and living holy. They’d rather be in His house when it’s service time than anywhere else.

A disciple will always receive so much more than just a convert. They walk so much closer to the Master and receive so much more from Him. Make a determination today that you are going to be more than just a convert, you’re going to be a disciple!
