“Therefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” ~ Hebrews 12:1
When the Bible instructs us to run our race with patience that lets us know that it’s not a 100 yard dash. If it were a 100 yard dash you’d run it full out. So, if we can only maintain our faith if everything comes to pass quickly we’ll soon be discouraged.
Distance runners have to develop something called stamina. Stamina allows you to push through the suffering and pain and to continue to run for long distances. Every runner training for a half or full marathon has to do one long run each week of their training to develop stamina so they’ll be able to complete their race. The same is true for us spiritually. We must build spiritual stamina so we’ll continue running our race until we reach the finish line of what God has for us.
Over the years I’ve seen many who start out strong, but fail to finish. They approached everything like it was a 100 yard dash and soon ran out of gas. They’re like the Israelites of old whom the Bible says, “the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.”
Make up your mind you’re going to persevere in faith until you reach the finish line God has for you. Refuse to allow discouragement to cause you to give up on your race!
