“At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them.”2 Timothy 4:16 NKJV………..
The Apostle Paul is talking about the time in his ministry when he was first arrested for preaching the Gospel. This wasn’t the last time, as there were other times to follow. During this time everyone who had been traveling with him forsook him. In modern language we’d say they split. They left him to stand alone by himself. Notice, Paul didn’t get bitter about it, but instead prayed that the Lord wouldn’t hold it against them. Wow, you talk about forgiveness!
You might as well settle it now, someone in your life is going to do you wrong. You’ve either been done wrong or you’re on your way to being done wrong. You may say, “Pastor, that’s a negative confession.” Yeah, but it’s a true one. It’s at times like these that you have to learn to just let it go.
Understand that people aren’t perfect and that you and I aren’t perfect either. You and I have let others down too. Maybe not on purpose, but nevertheless we’ve failed others and others have failed us. You just can’t live a victorious life if you’re going to go around and keep score.
Learn to be like the Apostle Paul, like Stephen, and most of all like Jesus, and say, “Lord don’t hold that against them.” Your own life will be much more peaceful if you do.
